Gemini & NotebookLM for all ages
Google announced that it will make Gemini available to even more students, faculty, and staff! Gemini app and NotebookLM, part of Google’s AI-powered Google Workspace Core Services, are expanding their availability to support learners and educators of all ages.
Here’s what you need to know:
Gemini App for All Ages
The Gemini app, previously limited to Google Workspace for Education users aged 13 or older, is now available for all ages! This means younger students can now benefit from Gemini’s intelligent assistance in their learning journey.
NotebookLM Expanding in August
NotebookLM, currently available to Google Workspace for Education users aged 18 or older, will also become available for all ages this August! Get ready to streamline your workload and gain deeper insights from your resources with this innovative AI-powered notebook, regardless of age.
Important Information for Workspace Administrators
Similar to other core service rollouts, with these services now available to users of all ages, the Gemini app and NotebookLM will be turned ON at the top-level organizational unit by default for existing Workspace for Education organizations.
Opt-Out Period: If your organization prefers not to have these services turned on automatically, administrators have the option to opt out by August 1, 2025.
This means that:
- A Super admin or Services admin can choose to opt out of the Gemini app and/or opt-out of the NotebookLM launches
- If customers do not opt out and have previously configured Gemini or NotebookLM OFF for sub organization units, Gemini or NotebookLM will remain OFF for users in those organizational units.
- If customers opt out, the existing Gemini app and NotebookLM settings will not change. Users with access to the Gemini app and/or NotebookLM will continue to have access and those who don’t will continue to not have access.
Remember, even if the Gemini app or NotebookLM are turned ON for your domain, admins remain in control and can turn these services OFF in the Admin console at any time.
