New Google Features Announced at BETT’24

Bett is the biggest education technology exhibition in the world. Think EduTech but much bigger! Bett aims to bring together educators from across the entire education landscape and has been transforming education since 1985! Find out more about Bett here

The team from Google for Education was there. Part of their participation, the company shared 30+ new features! The new features fit within the following key themes:

  • Giving educators time back to invest in themselves and their students
  • Making learning more personal with tools that engage and assess
  • Enabling greater connectivity across platforms & products
  • Creating inclusive, sustainable and safer learning environments

Here are some of our top 5 new features!

  1. Student groups in Google Classroom
    This is a game changer! Coming later this year Google will be adding a top-requested feature in Classroom to help educators create groups of students and easily assign different content to different students based on each group’s specific needs.
  2. Interactive questions for YouTube videos
    Interactive questions for YouTube videos is now available in Google Classroom. This feature helps check a student’s understanding of the topic at hand & provides educators with insights. We have already started creating Classroom posts with the amazing new feature..
  3. Recordings and Speaker spotlight in Slides
    Enhance your Google Slides with new video features! Embed video feeds using Speaker spotlight or record directly in Slides. Perfect for student assignments or flipped classrooms!
  4. Practice sets: Google Forms import
    This is huge! Transform existing Google Forms into Practice Sets with the click of a button! Use an existing Form you have or one that is shared by other educators to easily create interactive lessons.
  5. Reading mode in Chrome
    New innovations to reading mode are coming to Chrome browsers on all devices! See how new features are coming soon, like read aloud, summary mode, and more.

Our friend Adam Hill from the UK  is a Google Innovator and advocate for STEM education. He is an inspiring, passionate and creative educator and attended Bett this year. He shared some of his top highlights with us 

  • Design4SDGsUK24
    Hosted by Innovation X, students from around the country took the stage to present their design solutions to global challenges.
  • Tech User Labs
    New to Bett this year, Tech User Labs allowed us to learn directly from experts in interactive workshops. Topics included AI, coding, safeguarding and more.
  • Alex Scott MBE
    Ex-footballer turned TV presenter and sports pundit spoke at Bett to discuss her journey and the barriers that she has overcome. It was a powerful reminder of inclusion and the importance of student passions.
  • Exhibits
    As always, Bett UK 2024 showcased a wide range of EdTech solutions and exciting products. Highlights for me included the Meta VR stand, exciting updates from Microsoft and all of the robotics!
  • Connections
    Lastly, Bett is the biggest gathering in the UK of forward-thinking, future-ready educators. Reconnecting with old friends and making new ones is always a special reason to attend!

We love when our favourite educators from all over the world share their takeaways from our favourite events. Big thanks to Adam and the other folks that reached out to use with their big takeaways. We especially love when companies announce new tools that we can use to impact the teaching and learning at our school.
